William Griffin Moody, Jr.

William Griffin Moody,Jr was born September 30, 1930 in Social Circle, Georgia to W.G.Moody, Sr and Cleo Moody. He attended school in Athens and graduated from Athens High School and then from the University of Georgia with a degree in statistics. He was a member of the Georgia golf team where he won the SEC Championship in 1951 and was a team captain in 1952. He entered the service in 1953. He then served two years in the army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana and later at Fort Bragg, North Carolina where he met his future wife, Betty. She was a secretary to the Finance Officer at Fort Bragg where Griffin was sent. After they married in 1956 they moved back to Athens, Georgia and he once again attended the University of Georgia getting his Masters degree in accounting. In 1959 they moved to Gainesville, Georgia to work two years before getting his CPA certificate to practice. Once again, they moved back to Athens where he opened his own practice. His business grew and he became partners with Howard Lewis, and later Scott Collins. Griffin was a longtime member of Prince Ave., Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught in the youth department for many years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Bobby Moody. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty, his son, Griff (Donna), his daughter Terri Hancock (Robert) and 5 grandchildren- Will Moody, Ashley Anne Moody, Nikki Callon (Ben), Laura Bloom (Pete), Bo Hancock and three great grandchildren- Jaxon Callon, Cruz Callon, and Evelyn Bloom. He is also survived by a special sister-in-law Carolyn Bishop (Roy) and their son Alan (Linda).
