William Robert Walinow, Jr., 73, of Athens, died on Friday, January 20, 2023.
Born in Kansas City, Kansas to the late William Robert Walinow, Sr. and Margarete Meyer Walinow, Bill grew up in Kansas City until attending university at Park College. After graduating, he worked for over 50 years for the USDA in multiple states. He moved to Georgia in the early 1970s.
Bill served as President of National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) and was a member of Tuckston United Methodist Church in Athens. He was a hard worker who volunteered with The Gideons and was an active Boy Scout leader. He loved college football, basketball, and fishing. Above all, he was a dedicated father and family man.
Bill is survived by his wife of almost 15 years, Karen Davis Walinow; his children: Rachel (Trent) Skinner, William Robert Walinow, III, Heather (Michael) Toci, and Heath (Angela) Smart; sisters Virginia (James) Waller and Karen Walinow (Mark Loveland); eight grandchildren: Dylan Skinner, Colby Skinner, Logan Skinner, Waylon Skinner, Bennett Toci, Bryce Toci, Kaylyn Smart, and Alyssa Smart; and very special, lifelong friends Jerry and Ginny Rogers and Pat and Becky McCaskey.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 23 at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Hampton-Whitworth Cemetery in Madison County.
