Syble Maxine Hancock Smith, 86, of Athens Georgia, passed away on  January 12, 2021 after several years of declining health. She was born August 22, 1934  in Covington, Georgia to parents Hubert and Gladys Hancock. She graduated from Oglethorpe County High School and married Henry(Coot) Smith. They soon moved to Athens to raise their four children.

Syble is survived by her sister Delores Stalnaker of Macon, Georgia along with three children; Mark Smith and wife Erin of Salinas, California, Julie Patrick and husband Ben of Athens, and Carla Fulghum and husband Ken of Athens; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Henry Carlton (Coot) Smith, son Steve Smith and sisters Hilda Collett and Vivian Waggoner.

A private family burial service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Athens, Georgia.

Syble’s family wishes to thank the staff at Arbor Terrace and nurse Andrea with Agape Hospice for their loving care during the last few years and days of life.
