Rue Bloodworth Walker

November 26, 1924 ~ December 28, 2021 (age 97)



Rue Bloodworth Walker died December 28, 2021.

Born in Athens, GA on November 26, 1924, she was the daughter of Emma Freeman and B.R. Bloodworth.  

She graduated from Athens High School Class of 1941, attended the University of Georgia and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.  In her younger years she was quite active in community and church activities and held leadership positions in both Moultrie and Athens.  In 1965 she married Larry Walker, a charter member of St. James United Methodist Church and has been a member of St. James since that time. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Selene Hendrix, her brother Richard Bloodworth, her husbands, Lee Bradberry, Jr. and Larry Walker, and her son Brad Bradberry. 

She is survived by three sons, Tommy Bradberry of Newberry, SC, Bart Bradberry and his wife Elaine of Dacula, and Jeb Bradberry and his wife Charme of Athens; daughters in law Diane Bradberry of Littleton, CO and Julia Hodges of Atlanta.  She was “Maa Maa” to twelve grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

A celebration service will be held at at St. James United Methodist Church, 111 West Lake Drive, Athens, on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at 3:00 PM.

The family requests that flowers be omitted.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, 111 West Lake Drive, Athens, GA 30606 or the Athens Y Camp, 1000 Y Camp Road, Lakemont, GA  30552.
