February 17, 1943 ~ May 28, 2023 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Robert Lee Thaxton, 80, of Rayle, GA, died on May 28, 2023. Born at home in the Upper Flatwoods Community of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late Robert Carl Thaxton and Pearl Palmer Thaxton. Lee was also preceded in in death by his niece Carla Thaxton Brown.
Lee retired from Sears and Roebuck after 37 years and from Army National Guard after 30 years service. He was a longtime member of Lexington Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Oglethorpe County Cattlemen’ Association for many years and on the Oglethorpe County Georgia Farm Bureau Board of Directors for over 30 yrs. Some of his favorite pastimes were fishing, dove shoots, and 22 years of dirt track racing. He enjoyed collecting and restoring vintage tractors and classic cars and attending car shows. Most of all he loved his family and farming with his brother.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years Beth Bennett Thaxton; brother: Thomas C. Thaxton (Fran); children: Jason Thaxton (Libby), Elise Thaxton Kusiak (Scott); grandchildren: Heather Thaxton Stanley (Duston), Ethan R. Thaxton (Blair), Audrey Thaxton, Zack Kusiak, Regan Kusiak, and Jackson Kusiak; one great-grandchild: Claire Stanley and niece: Charlotte Bradford Welsh.
Funeral services will be held at Lexington Baptist Church, Thursday, June 1, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Matt Bartlett and Pastor Harry Warren officiating. Burial will follow at Thaxton Wynne Cemetery. Pallbearers: Doug Houser, Townley Wilson, Ethan Thaxton, Zack Kusiak, Jackson Kusiak and Duston Stanley and honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Thaxton, Edwin Sayer, Sonny Bryan and Tick Tankersley.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.
