Richard "Dickie" Harris Riggs

December 21, 1946 — May 12, 2023

Watkinsville

Richard “Dickie” Harris Riggs passed away on May 12, 2023. Dickie was born on December 21, 1946, to Charles and Lillian Riggs of Savannah, GA.

Dickie graduated from Georgia Southern University and taught school in Brunswick and St. Simons Island, GA, for many years. It was on St. Simons that he met and married his wife of 47 years, Robin Rowden. Dickie and Robin later moved to Watkinsville, GA, where he worked as a Supervisor of Personnel and Payroll in the Physical Plant Division at UGA and later as Manager in the Records Department of the Human Resources Division at UGA.

Dickie loved playing golf at the UGA golf course, and he attended all UGA’s home football games as well as some of their away games. His trip to the 2018 Rose Bowl game was awesome!

Dickie loved his three sons and their spouses, Ryan (Vicki), Matthew (Jessi), and Harrison (Audrey) and went on trips with only he and his sons every year, traveling all over the US from Portland, OR, to Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

Dickie is survived by his wife, sons, and eight spectacular grandchildren: Wes, Connor, Lily, Nash, Brek, Wells, Warren, and Harper. He is also survived by his brother Charles and wife Carol.

Dickie was beloved by everyone who knew him and had a kind, quiet, and gentle soul, one of the sweetest people that you could know. He was such a good man.

The family would like to thank the ICU Department at Piedmont Athens Regional for their incredible kindness and professionalism during Dickie’s final days.

The family and extended family are planning to hold a private memorial and celebration of life in the near future.
