Michael T Grey

Michael T. Grey, 80, a longtime resident of St. Simons Island, passed away peacefully at his home in Athens, GA on October 19, 2021. Mr. Grey was born on August 1, 1941 in New York City, the seventh child of John L. Grey of Draperstown, Northern Ireland and Catherine (nee Campbell) Grey of Coalisland, Northern Ireland.

After growing up in New York City, Mr. Grey worked in the Aerospace industry for Grumman and Lockheed. At Grumman, he worked as an engineer on the Apollo Lunar Module and his name is engraved on its landing gear that remains on the moon. He later changed careers and spent 25 years in numerous sales management positions in the pharmaceutical business working at Allergan and several others. After moves that took Mr. Grey to Long Island, NY, Southern California, South Florida and Atlanta, GA, he retired in St. Simons. He loved all sports, excelling at basketball as a young man and then becoming an avid golfer. He was a member of Settindown Creek Golf Club  in Roswell, GA and Sea Island Golf Club. He enjoyed arranging numerous golf trips with friends and family to Northern Ireland.

Mr. Grey is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marliyn (nee Fey) Grey, daughters Jennifer Waring (Paul), Melissa Grey Mosher and Nanette Smith (William), nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 noon on October 28, 2021 at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, 4355 Lexington Road, Athens, GA and in St. Simons Island at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
