Junious Lamar Williamson

Lamar was born on May 25th, 1950 in Commerce, Georgia to Moena Hoard Williamson. He grew up with four much loved sisters, Bobbie, Dartha, Linda, and Laverne. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1968, and soon after began working for the telephone company, Southern Bell. He continued his work there for the next 40 years making lifelong friends and earning the nickname Cat-daddy for his fierce pole climbing skills and adeptness in working at high elevations.

At 24-years old, he met his beloved Linda after being invited to Ray’s United Methodist Church in Eastville by good friends Lynn and Dennis Flanagan. They invited him to church on the notion that he loved softball. The church had a team and if he attended church, he could play for the team. That chance invitation changed his life, he met and fell in love with Linda Helen Strickland and married her just six months later. They would have celebrated 46 years of marriage on November 9th.

Four years after marrying, Linda and Lamar welcomed their first of three children, Tara Michelle in 1978. Soon thereafter they welcomed Matthew Lamar in 1981, and Brooke Elisabeth in 1983. Lamar was an amazing father and husband. His love for his family will be a lasting legacy. There was nothing he wouldn’t do to provide for and protect his family. He raised his children to love God, work hard, and love their mama!

Lamar loved watching and cheering for his beloved Georgia Bulldawgs. He loved Braves Baseball and some years even Falcons football. His sense of humor was beyond compare, and if you ever played a card game with him, you better come prepared to lose. He was a great softball player, a checkers king, loved his animals, and never missed an opportunity to brag on his kids or grandchildren.

In later years, Lamar was proudly known as Papa to his ten grandchildren. Papa was known for his nicknames, wagon rides, and thumb removing trick. He is survived by his wife Linda, and his children Tara and Owen Keeler, their children Mersadees, Danielle, Philip, Jack and Will; Matthew and Christina Williamson, their children Cole, Dylan, and Ava; and Brooke James, her children Madelyn and Hayden.

On the morning of October 14th, 2020, Lamar took his last breath with Linda and children by his side. We rejoice knowing he is whole, in the presence of our Heavenly Father, and will see him again one day. We are comforted knowing he was welcomed into his heavenly home by his mom and sister, Bobbie, his son in-law, Darin, and beloved mother and father-in law, Bob and Rebecca.

He was loved and will be missed greatly.

A visitation will be held on Friday, October 16, 2020 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at our Oconee Chapel, 2370 Hog Mountain Rd, Watkinsville, GA 30677. Graveside services will be Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Oconee Memorial Park.
