Joseph Anthony Krewer, of Watkinsville, Ga died peacefully on May 7, 2023, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Joe was born in Cherry Point, NC on March 31, 1950. He was the son of the late Joseph William Krewer and Mamie Mae Mercer Krewer and is survived by his three siblings: Kay Bailey, Gerard Krewer (Ava), and Ginny Wilson (Jerry). Besides his siblings, Joe is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty Goodwin and his loving stepchildren Timothy Almy and Christine Wright. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Joe was a graduate of the University of Georgia completing a master’s degree in Biological Sciences. He was a member of the SAE fraternity and proud to be a Double Dawg and remained a huge UGA football fan to the end. As a microbiologist, Joe spent his career educating people on how to improve the environment. He consulted with numerous municipalities in Georgia on ways to improve clean water resources. Joe was especially proud of the outreach programs he conducted educating children.
Joe spent his early youth in Valmeyer, Illinois before the family settled on Jekyll Island, GA. He spent many hours exploring the environment around the island and developed a keen interest and love of the ocean and its surrounding area. Among his many interests he loved being out on his sailboat, fishing, seining for shrimp, and waterskiing. He was proud of the motorcycles and scooters he refurbished over the years and spent many days riding the back roads and mountains of Georgia on his Triumph.
Joe was a man in constant motion, there was nothing he couldn’t fix. He loved taking things apart and putting them back together again. He was always doing projects around the house and yard, including the koi pond he built by hand one very hot July weekend.
At his core, Joe was a family man, he knew no strangers. His kindness and laughter will be remembered by all who knew him. We’ll think of him either with his toes in the sand at the beach, or his hands on the handlebars of a motorcycle cruising through the mountains.
Please join the family and friends for a memorial Mass at 3pm on May 31, 2023, at the UGA Catholic Center, followed by a celebration at Trappeze Pub in downtown Athens, GA.
