Obituary

Joe Paul Strickland of Colbert, GA passed away on May 27, 2022, surrounded by his family.  Joe Paul was 86 years old.

Joe Paul was born on July 28, 1935, to Clarence and Elise Strickland.  He was a 1953 graduate of Danielsville High School, where he played basketball.  After graduating he worked with his father as a contractor.  Once his father retired, he built a very successful painting business.  Joe Paul married the love of his life, Peggy Holcomb, on May 15, 1954.  They had two children, Ricky and Sabrina.

Joe Paul was a longtime member of Moons Grove Baptist Church, where he spent many years coaching the church softball team.  He also loved to deer hunt with his friends and family.  He had a love for Red Raider sports.  He could be seen supporting softball, basketball, and his favorite, baseball. 

Joe Paul is preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Elise Strickland, his siblings Troy Strickland, Lilly Browning, and Florence Williams. 

Joe Paul is survived by his wife of 68 years Peggy Holcomb Strickland, his two children Ricky (Lorena) Strickland and Sabrina (Marshall) Devane, and his grandchildren Chad (Alison) Gillespie, Gennie (Chad) Dearing, Maria Strickland, and Gina Strickland, great-grandchildren Sara Gillespie, Tucker Dearing, and Evan Gillespie.

There will be a homegoing celebration at Moons Grove Baptist Church on June 11, 2022, at 2:00 pm.
