We are remembering our good friend JIm Shehane today recalling him and Nelle on the fun trips to Smithgall in the fall and the many UGA football games we watched with that special group of friends at the Prokasy home.  He provided generous camaraderie over wine and food with the WWG.  Jim’s dignity and courage throughout his long battle with cancer has been an inspiration.  We offer a toast to his friendship and will miss him.

Jim was a wonderful neighbor and a dear friend. I will always think of Jim as the naturalist of the neighborhood who knew all about the innumerable critters that inhabit our woods and who provided deer corn to bring the deer, raccoons, squirrels, chipmunks, and possums together for dinner. Jim was smart and wise and fun and thoughtful. I'll miss him.

Though I've known you for close to half a century Nelle, I only got to know Jim after we started seeing you guys at the oncology clinic.  We both really enjoyed our lunches. Jim was so easy to talk to and informed even my anti-social husband got along well with him.

Some of my best memories at the UGA Georgia Center is the years I worked for Jim. He was not only my boss, but my very good friend.  He was a leader, and always made you feel appreciated. His ability to make you laugh even during tough times, made working for him an easy task. I turned down what would of been a promotion just to stay under his supervision - that shows the impact he had on me. Oh, the memories and corny jokes he and Pasquale are sharing right now. I will miss our DePalma's get-togethers but until we meet again, I will hold the memories close. Nelle, you, the boys, the grands, all of the family are in my prayers. Sending my love to you all.

Jim gave me my first job in television while I was still a senior at UGA as a part-time audio person and projectionist at WGTV. After graduating I left to work at Macon's NBC station, WCWB.  When I came back two years later Jim hired me again, this time as WGTV's Senior Technical Director.  I was lucky to work with both Jim and Mike Pasquale for four more years.  We worked on many shows together including "The Vince Dooley Show" and "Atlanta Week in Review", just to name a few.  Jim was a patient mentor to me and many other young broadcasters.

In 1979, I came to Jim and reluctantly told him I was leaving to go to work for Ted Turner as a director at a new company called Cable News Network.  Jim told me, "That thing will never get on the air!"  It was probably the only time he was wrong about something.  All the rest of his advice to me was always spot on.  Jim believed in me before I even believed in myself and for that, I am forever grateful.  God Bless you, Jim Shehane.
