Obituary

James “Jim” Neil Becker 91 of Athens, passed on peacefully in his sleep October 13, 2021. He was preceded in death by his late wives Carolyn Monfort, Ann Hawes, and Joan German. Born in Boone Iowa, he was the son of the late, George William & Opal Emma Becker. Mr. Becker was a veteran of the Army National Guard and earned his electrical engineering degree from Iowa State.  He was a natural leader, kind, just, and rose quickly with Cutler-Hammer and Eaton corporation.  He built and operated manufacturing plants in Asheville, NC and Athens, GA.  The latter giving him a lifelong love of Athens and UGA.  He retired after 35 years and began a very successful 20 year real estate career in Ft. Myers Beach, FL.  He retired from real estate and moved back to Athens to be closer to his 6 children.  He was a loving, compassionate Christian; avid sports fan; loved bringing family and friends together over meals and celebrations.  He was a lifelong learner, he maintained lifelong friendships and befriended many wonderful people along his journey. 

Memorial services are Monday October 18, 2021 11:00 AM at Emmanuel
Episcopal Church. Mask are required at the church for the memorial service. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to: The Food Bank of Northeast Georgia; Emmanuel Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his sons and daughters: James Edward, John
Shryock, Jennifer Lee Ramsey, Lorena Ann Rothfarb (Mike),
Barry Russell  (Tanya) and Liberty Amelia Brummond (Chuck);
seven grandchildren.
