Jack Chandler Gardner

Jack Chandler Gardner, age 75, died at home on August 8. Jack was born October 29, 1946, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Chandler McKay Gardner and Gladys Evans Gardner. The family moved to Montgomery when Jack was 8, where his sister, Kay was born. He graduated from Robert E Lee High School, attended Auburn University briefly, and was drafted at age 19. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. His first job upon return to the states was at Porex Technologies, in Fairburn, Ga., where he met his wife, Deloris. Jack earned his Executive MBA from Emory University in 1984, while employed at Porex. In addition, he invented a non-aerosol squeeze foamer, which was patented and selected for use in the space shuttle. MBA in hand, they moved to Pittsburg, Pa, where he worked for Respironics, assisting in engineering and quality control for various bio-medical devices. In 1990 Jack moved the family to Fredericksburg, Texas, to partner with long-time friends Sandra and Warren Schjonning at Quantum Components, where Jack later became the sole owner. Jack served as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce in Fredericksburg, Tx., as well as served on the Board of Directors for the Hill Country Memorial Hospital. Jack & Deloris were active members of Fredericksburg Bible Church. In March of 2002, Jack sustained a traumatic brain injury during an accident at home. His wife Deloris has been his faithful caregiver for over 20 years, eventually moving to Watkinsville, Ga in 2009, where they are members of Faith Presbyterian Church.

Memorial Service will be held at Faith Presbyterian Church, at 3 pm, Saturday, Sept. 17.

In addition to his wife, Harriet Deloris Gardner, Jack is survived by his step-son, David Parsley (Adrienne), of Charlottesville, Virginia, and his children Aidan, Brendan, and Claire Parsley, step-daughter, Marie Mabry of Houston area, Texas, sister Kay (Roger/Jerry) Norris of Watkinsville, sister-in-law Debra (Randall) Sims of Carrollton, Ga, nephews, cousins, and many faithful friends who encouraged and supported them both. Jack was known for his brilliant intellect and wry humor! He enjoyed chess and poker throughout his lifetime. In his last few months, he charmed his nurses with his sweet temperament and his mantra of “just get a lit-tle bit better, every day”.
