Obituary

Helen Schneider Collins passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the age of 105 as she was joyfully welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Helen was born on March 6, 1917 and was a lifelong resident of New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina relocated her to Tupelo, MS and then Colbert, GA. As a follower of Jesus Christ, Helen was a member of Word of Faith church. She was preceded in death by her parents Nicholas Schneider and Theresa Simons, her beloved husband of 60 years Tanzley John Collins Jr., her second husband Phillip Spiehler, her brother Melvin Schneider Sr., her sister-in-law Edith Schneider Lemaire and her grandson Darryl Collins. She is survived by her son Tanzley “Jack” Collins and her daughter in law Wanda Collins who housed, nourished, ministered, and loved her until she was called home. She is also survived by her daughter in law, Joyce Collins, 5 grandchildren Eric (Terry), Jan (Kenny), Susan (Gary) and Pam (Ricky), 14 great-grandchildren, Christian, Jason, Hannah, Eric (Jessica), Ryan (Stephanie), Jennifer (Chad), Ashley (Ryan), Adam (Katie), Rachel (Clinton), Emily Grace (and fiancée Tyler), Kyleigh, Brandon (Kyleigh), and Lauren (Preston), Daniel and 23 great, great grandchildren, Eric, Hannah Helen, Caleb, Cannon, Jackson, Caroline, Maddox, Colton, Baby Collins, Eli, Wyatt, Ryder, Madden, Delaney, Kenzie, Saylor, Noah, Marynn, Rowan, Rivers, Baby Dent, Tyler and Raven.

Anyone who met Helen would leave her presence knowing that Jesus loved them. Jesus was her life and it showed by the way she loved people. Growing up, she was an amazing athlete and grew to become a dominate bowler. Helen loved to play cards and was a fantastic cook which she learned from her mother Theresa. Helen was an ardent New Orleans Saints fan and was a season ticket holder for close to 40 years. She was a proud homemaker, a gardener and a lover of pets (Priscilla, Nicky Sr., Honey and Nicky Jr). Her grandchildren and great grandchildren simply knew her as Grandma Helen. The love of her life was her husband Tanzley whom she is finally reunited with. This world truly lost a Saint with her passing.

Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at St. Louis #3 Cemetery.
