Gregory N. Rice

September 2, 1947 — May 19, 2023

Athens

Greg Rice, 75, of Athens, GA, “kicked the bucket” on May 19, 2023.

He was born in Memphis, TN to the late Charles and Rachel Rice, and is also preceded in death by his brother, Paul Rice. He is survived by his beautiful and loving wife, Barbara Rice; two daughters, Holly (David) Crowe of Canton, GA, and Jenny (Joel) Wingard of Nashville, TN; stepdaughter, Patti Calhoun of Hull, GA; and two grandchildren, Emma and Davis Crowe. He was also proceeded in death by his first wife, Linda Lee, and second wife of 32 years, Kathy Rice.

Greg grew up in East Point, GA and graduated from Headline High School. He and his best friend, Richard, volunteered for the Army, where he courageously flew a Huey helicopter in Vietnam and was a helicopter instructor at Ft Stewart in Savannah, GA.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business from UGA but one of the joys of his life was serving as a coffee salesman with S&D coffee, delivering to customers throughout Northeast Georgia for over 31 years.

An avid Rock and Roll fanatic, he also loved to read, watch the Falcons and golf, volunteer at Piedmont Hospital and walk the streets of Normaltown.

He is now free of earthly pain and would not want us to grieve, instead encouraging us all to “keep rockin’ in the free world!”

The family will receive friends on Monday, May 22 at Lord and Stephens, East Chapel from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, Athens, GA, is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
