Garry Paul Hixson

Retired Colonel Garry Paul Hixson passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on September 30, 1940, in Fort Des Moines, Iowa. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Linda Sue Hixson; son Garth Paul Hixson and his wife Polly Ann Hixson; and his two grandchildren Emma Kathryn Hixson and Charles Paul Hixson.

Colonel Hixson graduated from Southwest Missouri State in 1962. He later obtained a Master’s degree from the Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama. Garry entered the army on December 9, 1963, and served twenty-nine years. He met Linda in 1959 and married her in 1962. They spent many years traveling the world and making wonderful memories.

Garry found his greatest happiness in life working alongside his son, Garth. Together they remodeled homes in the surrounding Athens area. Garry was a hard-working and humble man, a dedicated father and grandfather, and a loving, devoted husband. The family continues to take comfort in remembering the incredible impact Garry had on their lives.

A visitation of Colonel Hixson’s family will be held Wednesday, May 24 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
