Elizabeth A. Brabazon

September 3, 1932 — February 24, 2021

Athens, Georgia

Elizabeth Ann Harris Brabazon of Athens, Georgia died peacefully on February 24, 2021. The youngest child of Cora Stafford Harris and James Wesley Harris, Elizabeth Ann grew up in and around Loudon, a small rural town in Eastern Tennessee. Her husband, Paul Brabazon, her brother, Elbert Harris, her sister, Mary Nell Nestor and her beloved cat, Ginger, preceded her in death. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Jerry Harris, Vivian Carson, Kenny Harris, Elizabeth Ruhkala, Teresa Nestor and Joseph Nestor.

Liz was known as a mischievous tomboy growing up. She enjoyed riding ponies, befriending chickens and kittens, eating pinto beans with crispy skillet fried cornbread and playing basketball.  Fresh out of high school, she journeyed to Washington, DC where she worked at Headquarters Marine Corps learning office and secretarial skills. A fiercely loyal employee and a stickler for details and accuracy, she eventually became an administrative assistant with Gulf + Western in the iconic Watergate Building.

From the rural roads of Tennessee to the picturesque Rock Creek Parkway, Liz frequently changed from her shorts and sneakers to pearls and pumps. She was a fan of animal print clothing, black coffee, ice-cold Coca-Cola, and vodka on the rocks. A notorious night owl, she often watched late night television while enjoying a tub of coffee ice cream and some pound cake.

In her later years, Liz relocated and retired in Athens, Georgia.

A private burial in the Washington, DC area will take place when it is safe to travel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The State Botanical Garden of Georgia, 2450 Milledge Avenue Athens, GA 30605 or botgarden.uga.edu.
