Donald Frederick Jensen

Donald Frederick Jensen, 83, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.

He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, he was the son of the late Franklin Bryant Jensen and Myrna Alice Jensen and brother to the late Alan Jensen and Lowell Jensen. Along with his parents and brothers, Don was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 52 years, Beverly Mae Jensen.

Don and his family lived in many states throughout the midwest before finally calling the Athens area home nearly 20 years ago. He worked in insurance most of his life, becoming a manager of long-term disability for Mutual of Omaha Insurance Company. He worked for various other companies throughout his career including Unum Mutual. Don was a quiet man, yet he impacted many people's lives. His four children often considered him the conservator of the family, which led to his nickname, “St. Don''. He meant something to everyone he met, to know Don was to love him. Although he preferred to be in the background, Don had an infinite amount of humor and had no problem sharing it with everyone he loved. He was a volunteer at the State Botanical Gardens in Athens for 7 years and had a deep love for Chick-Fil-A. He and Bev were waiting in line on opening day for the Barnett Shoals location, a place they would continue to eat at daily, conversing with the staff and enjoying their food.

Don is survived by his 4 sons: Timothy Lhowe (Kristin), Randy Lhowe (Paula), Gary Jensen (Peggy), and Marc Lhowe (Dee); 11 grandchildren: Ross, Avery, Nichole, Lauren, Jessi, Rachel, Christopher, Victoria, Jensen, Emma, and Michael; and 7 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 15, at Lord and Stephens, East chapel at 3:00 p.m. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, starting at 2:00 p.m. Services will be live streamed through the Lord and Stephens Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/LordandStephens/
