Charles DeWitt Blanton, Jr.

Charles DeWitt Blanton, Jr., 85,  a native of Kings Mountain, NC and longtime resident of Athens, GA, passed on November 21, 2022 at his assisted living home in Roswell, GA.   Born on January 11, 1937, he was the son of the late Charles Dewitt Blanton, Sr. and Bonnie Yates Blanton.

Dr. Blanton spent his professional career at the University of Georgia in the School of Pharmacy as a medicinal chemist who devoted his career to research on malaria, leukemia, and other human diseases. He was passionate about teaching his students and researchers who were committed to finding cures to help others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three siblings.  Survivors include his wife, Brenda Sailors Blanton; daughter, DeAnn Blanton Golden; two grandchildren Grace and Wilson Golden; and extended family.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 22, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Lord & Stephens West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville. A private burial will take place at Oconee Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: UGA School of Pharmacy , Alzheimer’s Association of Georgia or American Cancer Society .
