Bricker Scott Daughtry

July 24, 1976 — January 27, 2023

Watkinsville

Bricker Scott Daughtry left this world on January 27, 2023, after a courageous battle with glioblastoma. Bric was born on July 24, 1976 to Linda Moon Daughtry and the late Thomas Bricker Daughtry.  He grew up in Jonesboro, Georgia where his father was an art professor at Clayton State University and his mother was an art teacher with Clayton County Schools. The family spent their summers at their mountain cabin in Gilmer County on Big Creek.

He graduated from Mount Zion High School where he had been an active member of the soccer, basketball and Odyssey of the Mind teams. He earned his B.S. degree in Cellular Biology from the University of Georgia and his M. Ed degree from the University of Georgia, which included a 4-week study of entomology in Kenya.  He taught physics and science classes at Apalachee High School where he was the varsity soccer coach for 5 years.  His J.D. degree from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University changed the direction of his life. While attending law school, he served as an Associate Editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy. He was also selected by the school’s faculty to participate in the Judge Abraham Caruthers Teaching Fellowship. He received the Scholar of Merit Award for Mediation and Mediator Practice. After graduation from law school, Bric joined the Carr-Allison Law Firm and became a partner.  After practicing in Birmingham, Alabama for 9 years, he joined Fortson, Bentley & Griffin in Athens, Georgia, becoming a partner in 2016.

Bric’s faith propelled him into several organizations that are based on helping others. He and Janette worked in many soup kitchens and food pantries. He was so moved by the Mercy Health Center in Athens that cares for the medical, emotional, spiritual, and pharmacological needs of the underserved community that he became a member of the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the North Oconee Rotary Club.

He met Janette Cummings at the University of Georgia in a Chemistry class in which they were assigned to be lab partners. Little did they know at that time they would be partners for life. They married July 21, 2001. They later became model parents to Brayden, Bricen, Brody, and Brynn, who have brought so much joy into their lives.

Bric’s interests seemed to be endless. He loved the outdoors, gardening, cooking, baking artisan bread, exploring Asian cuisine, reading, traveling, problem solving and finding the utmost happiness in life. His humor was contagious. Even when the disease silenced his voice, he was able to make people laugh. His heart was as big as he was.

He is preceded in death by his father, Tommy Daughtry. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Janette Cummings Daughtry; his 4 adored children Brayden Scott Daughtry, Bricen Paul Daughtry, Brody Thomas Daughtry and Brynn Cummings Daughtry; his loving mother, Linda Moon Daughtry and his beloved brother, Peyton Crawford Daughtry.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1:00 P.M. at Athens Church, 10 Huntington Road, Athens, GA 30606. Visitation is at 12:00 P.M.
