Listen to Obituary

William Hitchcock, 89, went to see Jesus on December 7, 2025.

He was the son of Crawford Hitchcock and Nellie Freeman Hitchcock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Nina Moore Hitchcock, and his sister Mary Ruth Smith (Calvin).

He is survived by his daughter, April Watson (Stanley) and granddaughter, Adrianna Tanner (Wade).

William was a resident of Madison County, growing up on a farm in Ila and later living in Danielsville. He was an Army veteran and a proud member of the Freemasons. He had a long and fulfilling career as a transfer truck driver and was known as “Bill” to all his colleagues. He retired from Yellow Freight.

William deeply enjoyed camping, frequenting trips to Unicoi Springs with his late brother-in-law and best friend Henry Booth. He loved watching World War II documentaries and could easily identify any American aircraft from the war. He had a great passion for food and looked forward to having his black coffee every morning. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where he was an usher for many years. He was a beloved Dad, Papa, and husband, and he will be dearly missed.

At his request, no public funeral services will be held. The family cordially asks that no food be prepared, provided, or brought to the home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Friendship Baptist Church, PO Box 299, Danielsville, GA 30633; or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or a charity of one’s choice.

The family greatly appreciates the staff of Brookside in Commerce, Agape Hospice, and Ms. Dawn Lynn for all of their care and support.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
