William Arthur “Bill” Bowman, 95, of Bogart, GA passed away peacefully in his home on December 16th, 2023, with his loving daughter Linda attending by his side.

He was born November 16, 1928, to William Arthur Bowman Sr. and Lillie Ann Nuckolls Bowman. He was raised in a hard-working farming family in Chattooga County, GA, where he married Sue Bramlett Bowman in 1951. In 1960, they moved their young family to Bowdon, GA, where they lived happily for 37 years, before retiring to Oconee County GA in 1997.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, as well as Sue, his beloved wife of 51 years, his sister Frances Bowman Knowles, his son Steve Bowman, and his golden-years wife of 12 years, Hilda Lance Bowman.

He is survived by daughter Linda Bowman-Lundy (Harold) of Statham, GA, son Steve’s partner Diane Winstanley of Bogart, GA, granddaughter Ashley Lundy (great grandsons Malachi and Noah) and grandson Chris Lundy (wife Katie O’Toole and great granddaughter Olivia) of Atlanta, GA, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

He graduated from Gore High School in Chattooga County, GA, Edmondson School of Business, Chattanooga, TN, and School of Banking of the South, Louisiana State University.

His professional career spanned 45+ years in the banking industry beginning at the age of 16, with Farmer’s & Merchant Bank, Summerville, GA, followed by the Commercial Bank / Trust Company Bank, Bowdon, GA, and West Georgia National Bank, Bowdon and Carrollton, GA.

Bill was actively involved in community and state organizations through the decades of his life. He served as Chairman of Bowdon Housing Authority, Treasurer of Bowdon Beautification Committee, Director of State YMCA of Georgia, Board of Carroll City-County Hospital Authority, and was a trustee of Wesley Foundation at West Georgia College. He served as President of Bowdon Lions Club, and continued his active involvement in Lions Club after moving to Oconee County in 1997. While a Lion, he was awarded the Hall of Fame for Outstanding Service and Dedication, the Melvin Jones Fellow for Dedicated Humanitarian Services, and his 55-Year Lion Award.

After retiring, he and wife Sue relocated to Oconee County to be near their children and grandchildren. They enjoyed traveling with family and friends, including travels across the US for golfing adventures. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, sharing adventures, and making priceless memories.
