William (Bill) Wofford Jackson, 73, of Athens died on July 22, 2026. He was the son of the late Henry Calvin Jackson, Sr., and the late Betty Ann Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Ellen Jackson, his brother, Henry Calvin Jackson Jr., his sisters, Jill Marie Jackson Parmer and Judy Ann Jackson.
Bill was born in Atlanta and grew up in Manchester, Georgia. He spent his adult life in Athens, Georgia. Bill received his B.Sc. from West Georgia College in 1975 and went on to earn his Master of Education in 1979. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged in 1981. He spent 28 years working for the Department of Corrections as a counselor until he retired in 2007. He had a compassion for animals and spent many years as a volunteer helping with the care and adoption of cats. In his spare time, he loved to read and was an avid backgammon player. Bill had an amusing wit. His humor made people feel welcome and at ease. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
There will be a small private memorial. Information will be given at a later date. The family welcomes condolences and sympathy in any form, but in leu of flowers, please make donations to your local animal shelter or humane society.
