Walter James Williams, 87, died on June 29, 2026.

Born in Oglethorpe County, GA, he was the son of the late James Asbery Williams and Susie Mae Perry Williams. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette Williams and second wife Patricia Williams; sisters: Sally Sorrow and Mary Wray and bother in law, Chester Greeson. Mr. Williams served in the US Army and retired from the Athens Clarke County Police Department after 18 years. He also worked for the Oglethorpe County Sheriffs Office and several other law enforcement departments. He was a member of Bairds Baptist Church in Union Point, GA.

Survivors include his daughter, DeeAnn Williams, step daughter Deborah Page; grandchildren: Blake Williams and Tiffany Brown; great grandson: Bryant Williams: sister and caretaker: Mamie Greeson; sister: Polly Godbee and bother: Wade Williams.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 1PM at Lord and Stephens East Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Athens Memory Gardens.
