Walter Lee Brooks, Sr.

Walter Lee Brooks, Sr., 97, died Sunday, June 21, 2026.

Born January 3, 1929, Walter was a son of the late Eunice and Frank Brooks and was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Joyce Thurmond Brooks in 2024.

Walter lived most of this life in the Athens area and was the founder and longtime operator of Auto Glass Center. He was a member of Athens Antique Car Club and Johnson Drive Baptist Church.

Survivors include two children, Geraldine (Chuck) McCants and Lee (Cathy) Brooks; five grandchildren, Howard (Rebecca) McCants, III, Joyce McCants Smith, Teri (Russell) Tankersley, Jan (Allen) Fleming and Robin (Shane) Purcell; thirteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Johnson Drive Baptist Church, 145 Johnson Drive, Athens, GA 30605.
