Vivian Jerolene “Jeri” Horton was born to John Bunyan and Lois Lee Norris in Fitzgerald, GA on May 11, 1930. Preceding her in death were two brothers, Charles and Johnny Frank, and her husband of 63 years Willis M “Doc” Horton. She is survived by a sister, Jeanette Dansberger of Hagerstown, MD, two children, Cassandra Robinson (Bentley) of Watkinsville, GA, and David Horton (Scarlett) of Land O Lakes, FL. She had five grandchildren, Will Robinson (Mandy) of Columbus, OH, Cassie Robinson of New York, NY, Nicholas Horton (Nina) of Phoenix, AZ, Tenley Lacie (Bryan) of Gresham, OR, and Christopher Horton (Jane), deceased, KIA 9/10/2011 Paktya Province Afghanistan. She also has four great grandchildren, Ella and Garrett Robinson, Lily Lacie, and Evan Horton. Jeri died peacefully at home Sunday night, November 2, 2025 around 9:30pm. Jeri Horton married Willis M “Doc” Horton on July 6, 1946 and accompanied him to Sevierville, TN for Doc to attend Bible Training School, later to Lee College in Cleveland, TN. The Horton’s moved in 1950 to Doraville, GA where they founded a new church, Campground Church of God. Their daughter, Cassandra was born in 1951, son David in 1957. In the years that followed, Doc and Jeri pastored several churches in Georgia, and held two executive positions as State Overseer in New Mexico and Iowa. While in New Mexico, The Hortons pioneered a mission on the Navajo Nation, building several native churches. From 1980 to 1993, Doc held a teaching position at Rhema Bible Training College in Tulsa, Oklahoma. After his tenure there, Doc and Jeri traveled internationally as guest ministers at conferences and Christian events. Jeri became known as an effective speaker and spiritual leader in her own right. Her hobbies were cooking, decorating, china painting and piano. She was fiercely loyal to her family and had a great sense of humor to all who knew her. She was very devout and fervent in her faith and prayer life. She will be missed by all who loved and knew her. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date to be announced.
