Virginia Marie Dawson

Virginia Marie Denton Dawson passed away on July 8, 2026, in Athens, Georgia.

Born in Hiawassee, Georgia, Virginia was the daughter of Geneva Snow Garrett and Ray Denton. Throughout her life, she faced many challenges with resilience and determination, always finding a way to keep moving forward.

Virginia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family. She is survived by her children, Marilyn Marie Dawson Mercer, Kenneth Larry Dawson, and Albert “Travis” Dawson III and his wife, Kammie Dawson.

She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren: Matthew Mercer and his wife Megan Mercer, Dustin Dawson, Christen Mercer Parsons, Brittany Dawson-Brock and her husband Tyler Brock, Alyssa Dawson, Travis Dawson Jr., and Luke Dawson.

Her memory will live on through her great-grandchildren, Ophelia Brock, Amelia Brock, and Ella Marie Mercer, who brought joy to her later years.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Geneva Snow Garrett and Ray Denton and her husband, Albert Larry Dawson.

She is also remembered by her many siblings, extended family members, and friends whose lives she touched throughout her years.

Though life brought many hardships, Virginia met them with strength and perseverance. Her family will remember her for her determination, her love for those she cared about, and the memories she leaves behind.

Her legacy lives on in the generations that follow her, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services for Ms. Dawson will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Lord and Stephens, West. Visitation will be prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at the funeral home.
