Vernon Lee Savage, 87, died October 30, 2026.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, Vernon was a son of the late William Dean Savage and Ollie Ree Durham Savage, and the widower of Pauline Mitchell Savage. Vernon was also preceded in death by four sisters, Lula (Eddie) Benedict of Athens, Jean (Dick) Bell of Watkinsville, Nancy Berliner of West Palm Beach, FL and Ollie Van of Hampton, FL; three brothers, Frank (Merle) Savage of Farmington, Horace (Becky) Savage of Watkinsville and Virgil (Hilda) Savage of Watkinsville.
Vernon was hardworking, dedicated employee for over forty years at Anaconda/Southwire. His copper-stained hands were a badge he wore proudly and were an example to his children of his “we don’t quit” attitude.
He had a true love for all things outdoors, specifically gardening, hunting and fishing. He found peace in the simple, honest work and patience of growing a garden, and sharing the harvest with family and friends brought him great joy. He was known to be a kindhearted neighbor and will be missed by this community.
Vernon also had a tender heart when it came to his pets and always loved their companionship – he made sure they were always taken care of.
Vernon was truly a devoted husband and along with Pauline raised a remarkable family that made him very proud. He greatly missed Pauline each and every day since her passing eight years ago. Our family is comforted knowing they are now together again.
Survivors include children, Allan (Beth) Savage of Watkinsville, Chuck (Laura) Savage of Bethlehem, GA and Angie Hooper, of Bowman, GA; sister, Macie Vitug of Maysville; grandchildren, Matt (Brittany) Savage, Jake (Hillary) Savage, all of Watkinsville, Katie (Bill) Revard of Bethel, AK, Mary Beth (Robert) Heenan of Ball Ground, GA and Nathan Savage of Bethlehem; nine great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Sunday, November 8, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Oconee Memorial Park. Following the service, there will be a gathering for family and friends at the Farmington Community Center.
Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
