Tonda Renee McCarty

Tonda Renee McCarty, 68, of Watkinsville, GA, passed away on September 22, 2026. Born July 24, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Arnold and Donnie Gwaltney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Edward McCarty, and by her brother, Nathaniel Rogers.

Tonda was a truck driver, which she enjoyed very much. She was also previously a paralegal at the University of Georgia. Outside of work, she loved to cook and enjoyed crafting. She also enjoyed traveling and was an animal lover. More than anything, she loved being a nana to her two grandchildren. Tonda will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

She will be remembered with love by her daughters, Sarina McClain (Chris) and Christy Pass (James). She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dylan White and Pete Craft, who brought her great joy. Tonda is further survived by her sisters, Patricia Rogers and Valerie Bennett, and by her brother, A.J. Gwaltney.

A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Lord and Stephens West on Sunday, September 27, 2026, starting at 2:00 P.M. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M.
