Thomas David Fletcher, Jr., cherished husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2023 at the age of 83.
Born in Dekalb County, he was the son of the late Thomas David Fletcher, Sr. and Peggy O’Neal Fletcher. David was a Veteran of the United States Army having actively served in West Germany from 1961-1963, during the Berlin Wall Crisis, and then serving for more than 15 years with the National Guard. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he received his undergraduate degree in 1961, his Masters degree in 1972 and his Education Specialist degree in 1974. David was not only a graduate of the University of Georgia but was employed there for more than 32 years as Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs. He was a longstanding member of Tuckston United Methodist Church and had a passion for serving others. Along with his wife Hilda, David found great purpose in mission work around the world; most important was their work in Brazil.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Hilda Hubbard Fletcher; four children, Thomas David Fletcher, III (Kellie), Andrew Lane Fletcher, Lee Ann Fletcher and Alice Elizabeth Fletcher (Scott Jordan); eight grandchildren, Brittany Ann Fletcher (Seth McCannon), Thomas David Fletcher, IV, Lane Andrew Fletcher (Ayana), William Tyler Fletcher, Laura Fletcher, Eva Fletcher, Alex Kinney Gunn (Carter), Conner Kinney and three great-grandchildren, Walker, Britton and Henrietta.
Memorial services will be Monday, July 31, 2023 at 11:00 am at Tuckston United Methodist Church with Dr. John Brown officiating. Graveside services will be prior to the memorial service. Pallbearers will be Thomas David Fletcher, IV, Lane Fletcher, William Tyler Fletcher, David Costello, Jason Daniel, Scott Jordan and Seth McCannon.
The family will receive friends Sunday, July 30, 2023 from 5:30 until 7:30 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Brazil Mission Trip Fund at Tuckston United Methodist Church.
