Stanton James Singleton, Jr.

January 1, 1947 — January 8, 2024

Atlanta

Stanton James Singleton, Jr., 77, of Atlanta, GA peacefully departed this life on January 8, 2024.

Stan was born in Athens, GA and grew up enjoying camping, fishing, and all things outdoors. He was an avid learner and discovered a love of the Law which led to him becoming a proud graduate of the University of Georgia earning an A.B. degree in 1969 followed by a J.D. degree from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1972. Stan also served for over 19 years in the U.S. Army and Reserves as a member of the Judge Advocate General group, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He started his private sector work with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta then worked as an Independent Legal Counsel around the world, advising on and helping write laws and procedures in the establishment of fiduciary systems for various countries. He followed this with his work at ProBrand International as Legal Counsel and Director of HR. All these positions were born out of his lifelong passion and dedication to international people.

Stan was a long-time member and volunteer at First Baptist Church of Atlanta since 1987. Serving as a short-term missionary and as a teacher for the ESL Bible Studies and Adult Life Groups, he was known to all, especially the international newcomers. Stan loved to help people and was generous with his time as well as using his gift of knowledge of the Law to serve those in need. He had a passion for teaching the non-English speaking about Jesus and the Bible, even reaching out via the phone to attend Sunday School class if he couldn’t make it in person. With his love of people and his gift for storytelling, Stan touched so many lives and even though his cell phone rang continuously, he welcomed every call.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents, Stanton James Singleton, Sr. and Margaret Slaton Singleton.

Stan is survived by his children Mark (Leslie) Thomson and Ellen (Andrew) Latham; grandchildren Rachel (Scott) Walker, Christopher Thomson, and Parker Latham; and great grandchild Ada Walker. Also, his sister Betty (Delbert) Fussell; her children Jeff (Ellen) Harrold and Kim (Bill) Lawrence and their families, as well as many cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and loved ones.

Stan is also survived by his “Adopted Daughters,” all of whom he loved and cared for greatly.

Stan’s family and friends wish to extend their sincere thanks to the First Baptist Church of Atlanta for being such an important part of Stan’s passion and life. His work for his Savior was more important to him than any other work and it gave him purpose and fulfillment of God’s mission here on Earth.
