Stan Lowery

Stanley Dee Lowery (Stan), 86, of Watkinsville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, in the presence of his family on his beloved farm.

He was born November 21, 1939, in Douglasville, Georgia, to Edmond Dee Lowery and Mary Elizabeth (Daniel) Lowery. Following graduation from Douglas County High School, Stan proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964.

In 1967, Stan's employment with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brought him to Athens, Georgia. In 1968, he relocated his young family to a farm in Watkinsville, Georgia. This move was his life's turning point and led him to his true calling. For the following 50+ years, Stan raised Angus beef cattle and became an accomplished broiler chicken farmer, leading the industry in innovative approaches. His farm was his passion and his sanctuary. He called it, "the most beautiful place on Earth."

Stan was a man of great character and faithfully served his church and community. He enjoyed years of service as a Gideon and found much joy as an avid golfer. His truest love was for his family. Raised in a tight-knit family, Stan cherished every moment with his family: children, siblings, nieces, and nephews.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Shannon (Michael) Nelms; son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Genia) Lowery; granddaughter, Sagan Lowery; and siblings, Bob (Shirley) Lowery, Gloria (Ron) Riedl, Jane Skinner (Wayne Bailey), Diane (Bob) Sedlack, and John (Katie) Lowery. Stan was preceded in death by the love of his life, Margaret (Peggy) Lowery, his beloved wife of 47 years; brother Edward Lowery and sisters, Betty (Wallace) Agee, Marty (Paul) Lambert, and Helen (Jack) Chapell.

Services will be held Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Antioch Christian Church in Watkinsville, Georgia. Visitation will take place from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by the memorial service at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A meal and fellowship will then be held at the family farm at 2281 Antioch Church Road, Watkinsville GA. Pallbearers will be Brent Marable, Chris Mobley, David Hayes, Hunter Hargrave, Mark Rose, and Neil Boss.
