It is with great sadness that the family of Spencer Adam Nation announces his unexpected passing on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the age of 25. At 6½ feet tall, Spencer was a giant of a man with the most loving heart of anyone.
Spencer was born on October 9, 1998 to Shawn and Amy Nation. He graduated from Oconee County High School in 2020. During his high school days and since graduation he enjoyed participating in Victory Day, which is a football event for special needs kids. His last day to participate in this event was the day before his death. Spencer prided himself with holding the school record in the number of tackling dummies that he could tackle. Spencer also enjoyed his time spent with his ESP (Extra Special People) friends whether it was in a cooking class, dancing class, bowling, or playing baseball with the ESP Miracle League baseball team - oh, the home runs he could hit. He looked forward every summer to spending a week away from home with his ESP friends at Camp Twin Lakes overnight camp at Fort Yargo. Fall was always an exciting time with getting to go with his ESP friends to meet and have dinner with his beloved UGA Bulldawg football players and coaches - Go Dawgs in Spencer's memory. In addition to his ESP activities, Spencer had a part-time job at CIC's Pizza, which he referred to as his "dream job". He loved his boss, Trippi, and all of his co-workers, but the best part of his job was meeting, and of course talking to people.
Spencer is survived by his father, Shawn Nation; sister, Amberlee Wilkes Wyatt; grandmother, Marilyn Wilkes; step grandfather, Dale Rowan, a niece and nephew, and a special aunt and uncle, Glenda and Jack Brown. Spencer was preceded in death by his mother, Amy Wilkes Nation; grandmother, Barbara Rowan; great grandmother, Blanche Warren; grandfathers, Cecil Nation and Ted Wilkes, and uncle, Matt Wilkes.
A memorial service will be held at 3 o'clock on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at Lord and Stephens-West, 1211 Jimmy Daniel Road, Watkinsville, Georgia. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 2-3 at the funeral home. A private burial will be held at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Park. If you would like to celebrate Spencer's life and his love for the Dawgs, his family ask that you wear your Georgia attire or just red and black to his service.
Flowers are welcome or donations may be made in Spencer's memory to ESP-Athens designated for "participants scholarship fund" so that other kids may enjoy the fun from being part of the ESP family.
