Sara Smith Cody McNamara of Statham, GA passed away December 14, 2025 with her family at her bedside while residing at The Landing in Bogart. "Sara Alice" was born April 1, 1951 in Lagrange, GA and moved with her family to Athens in 1960. She was a 1969 Athens High graduate.

Sara worked at Russell Daniel Irrigation in Athens for more than 30 yrs. She studied and received some college credits as well as taught special irrigation courses at UGA. She was an active member of Classic City Pilot Club including multiple terms as President. She was an active member of Bogart United Methodist Church throughout her teen and adult years, and was once the youth leader for the church. Sara was an active member of the Red Hat Ladies Club as well as the Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of American Revolution.

She was an avid gardener with the greatest of green thumbs who also enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and family, and spoiling her grandchildren most of all.

Family will hold visitation services at Lord & Stephens West in Watkinsville, GA on December 20, 2025 from 1 - 3pm. Funeral service will be held immediately after visitation in the funeral home chapel at 3pm.

Family and friends are invited to gather after the service at Bogart United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall in Bogart, GA.

Sara is proceeded in death by her parents E.B. and Sara Smith of Luthersville, Ga and sister, Becky Smith of Athens.

She is survived by her husband Jim McNamara of Statham, GA, her son Chris McDaniel (Valerie) of Watkinsville, GA daughter Kelly Cody of Athens, GA step son John McNamara of Highland Village, TX and step daughter Shannon Koonsman (Kenneth) of Highland Village, TX, her grandchildren: Ryne McDaniel (Lauren) of Statham, Olivia Westbrook (Tymber White) of Athens, Lily McDaniel of Watkinsville, Gracelin Westbrook of Athens and great grandchild Althea McDaniel of Statham, as well as her sister Gail Lancaster of Lawrenceville, GA and brother Charles Smith (Deanne) of Bishop, GA along with numerous nieces and nephews.
