It is with deep sorrow that we announce Sally Louise Saxon Hozey, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Colbert, GA on January 29, 2026. Mrs. Hozey was born October 16, 1946, in Elberton, GA, daughter of the late John Henry and Mary Helen Benton Saxon.
Driven by an enduring love of learning, Sally graduated from the University of Georgia in 1969. For over 32 years, Sally touched countless lives as a devoted elementary school teacher in Brazelton, Elberton, and Colbert Elementary, teaching grades kindergarten through the second grade. As a member of Colbert United Methodist Church, she enjoyed supporting her community even as her declining health prevented her from attending in person. Although she delighted in card games like bridge, spades, or puzzles, her greatest joy was spending time with family - especially her four grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Curtis Hozey; sister, Mary Helen Saxon Glenn; brother-in-law, Radford Glenn; and nephew, Max Glenn.
Sally is survived by her loving daughters: Anne Marie Gladden (Eric) of Savannah, GA and Allison Helene Deal (Sam) of Auburn, AL; grandchildren, William Emerson Gladden, Megan Elizabeth Gladden, Samantha Helene Deal, Leonard James Deal; as well as many extended family members who loved her dearly.
Sally’s legacy of curiosity, learning, and compassion will be carried forward by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Visitation will be held from 1 - 2 pm, Sunday February 8, 2026, at Lord and Stephens Danielsville, with graveside service to follow at Rose Hill cemetery in Royston, GA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her memory to the Madison County Retired Educators Scholarship Fund via check and/or money order sent to: Jean Madden Banks, Treasurer, MCREA. PO Box 783 Danielsville, GA 30633. Memo: scholarship Hozey.
