Sachio Goodie passed away June 26, 2026, aged 24, following a year-long experience with cancer, brought on by a lifelong experience with neurofibromatosis type 1.
As a child growing up in Athens, Georgia, Sachio was exuberant, with kind thoughts and deeds for all, a unique and original way about him, and passion for many activities. He participated in taekwondo, tee ball, golf, and tennis. He took lessons in violin, piano, saxophone, singing, and self-taught guitar. He was a Cub Scout and a Georgia Bulldogs fan. He was lead singer with The Drapes, performing at Nuçi’s Space and the 40 Watt Club.
Sachio became a bar mitzvah in the Jewish faith at Congregation Children of Israel in 2015. He served two years as editor-in-chief of BluePrints Magazine at Cedar Shoals High School, and left that journalism program stronger and more recognized than he found it. He was admitted to the University of Texas at Austin, became a devoted Texas Longhorn, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 2024. He was president of the UT chapter of the Jewish fraternity Sigma Alpha Mu. He aspired to a career in music-related business.
Sachio obtained an internship in college, which turned into a full-time job after graduation, where he helped lead the grand reopening of the iconic Austin record store Waterloo, at a new location and under new ownership, while maintaining community support. He lived and worked self-sufficiently for one year following graduation, when his illness began its destructive progression. He faced cancer with courage and honesty, and maintained his characteristic kindness and wit throughout his journey. He was a wonderful teacher of life lessons during his whole life.
Sachio is survived by his loving parents Chinami and Adam Goodie, sister and sister-in-law Sara and El Goodie, grandfather Avrum Goodie, grandmother Judith Goodie and partner Dorian Riggen, grandfather Clay Leath, uncle and aunt James and Akemi Leath, uncle and aunt Bobby and Jessica Leath, uncle Steve Goodie, aunt Sharon Goodie, and cousin Daniel Goodie. He is preceded in death by his grandmother Asako Leath.
