Ruthie Lee Carter, 89, went to be with her Lord peacefully on January 22, 2014.

A native of Oconee County, she was the daughter of the late John Golden Lee and Linnie Bell Kidd Lee . In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Thomas Edward Carter, Sr.; brother: Eugene Lee; and sisters; Lona Bell Stowe, Jessie Lou Patton, Cora Lea Cook, Molly Mae Meeler, Artie Baker, Johnnie Thompson and Bernice Hall. She was a homemaker and longtime member of West End Baptist Church. Mrs. Carter was a tailor/artist of high-end clothes and was very well known in that industry. She was very dedicated to her husband and family and those she loved.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law: Thomas E. "Tommy" (Jennifer) Carter of Columbia, SC, Ben (Lori) Carter of Clarkesville, Ga.; daughter and son in law: Margaret Ann (Tom) Ashburn of Columbia, SC; sister: Jeanette (Walt) Baker of Statham; bothers-in-law: Lloyd D. Carter; sisters-in-law: Opal Griffin and Hazel Carter; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 26, 2014 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens West Chapel with Revs. Lee Hunter and Ray Finger officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the funeral home.

Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

The family is especially grateful to our family from Home Instead: Lillian Lindsey, Kathy Barr, Margaret "Molly" Lavender and Susi Kilgore.

Lord & Stephens West is in charge of arrangements.
