Ronald Duane Payton

Ronald Duane Payton, aged 77, of Union Point, GA, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. He was born on October 3, 1948, to the late Charles Dale and Opal Elaine Payton. Ronald is lovingly remembered by his wife, Brenda Payton, and his devoted children, Cynthia Taylor, Ronald Payton II, and Minnie Richlie. He shared his life with his sister, Ladonna Strait, and brothers, Greg Payton and Jim Payton. In addition, Ronald cherished his four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A proud veteran, Ronald dedicated many years of his life to the service of his country as a member of the United States Navy. He was honored with numerous accolades for his commitment and excellence, including the National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Star, Navy Unit Commendation with two Bronze Stars, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Battle Efficiency "E" Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal with four Bronze Stars, and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon with one Silver Star. His career in the submarine services, particularly on the USS Ray, was a significant source of pride for him.

In addition to his military service, Ronald was a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witness, Lexington congregation, where he found community and fellowship. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, faith, and his country.

Ronald is preceded in death by his brothers, Scott, Randy, and Andy Payton. While the pain of his loss will be felt deeply, the legacy of his service, love, and strength will endure in the hearts of those he leaves behind.

He is survived by his loving wife, Brenda Payton; daughters and a son, Cynthia Taylor, Ronald Payton, II, and Minnie Richlie; sister and brothers, Ladonna Strait, Greg Payton, and Jim Payton; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
