Roger M. Peacock, 59, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2025, in Athens, Georgia. Born on May 12, 1965, in Miami, Florida, Roger lived a life defined by dedication, mentorship, and an unwavering passion for history and sports.
A proud graduate of Miami Palmetto Senior High School, Roger pursued his passion for history at the University of Florida, earning an associate’s degree before completing his bachelor’s degree at St. Thomas University. His passion for guiding young minds was evident early on, as he spent years as a beloved camp counselor for Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation and as a Pop Warner Football coach at Suniland Optimist. These experiences paved the way for what became his true calling.
Roger became a history teacher and Head Football Coach at Gulliver Preparatory School in Miami, where he influenced countless students both on and off the field. In addition to coaching football and softball, he became the iconic voice of Gulliver Basketball, bringing his signature enthusiasm and a soundtrack of ’70s disco hits to every game. Always willing to go the extra mile, he volunteered to drive the school bus for events and eagerly served as a chaperone on out-of-town trips. He used these opportunities not just for supervision but to immerse himself in the rich history of each destination—his favorite being Gettysburg. His guidance extended beyond athletics, shaping students' character, discipline, and appreciation for history.
Beyond the classroom and the sports field, Roger was known for his steadfast integrity, kind heart, and sharp intellect. Friends and colleagues often described him as a true gentleman, a loyal confidant, and a captivating conversationalist with an encyclopedic knowledge of historical facts and figures. His curiosity was boundless, his respect for others unwavering, and his ability to inspire unmatched. His deep appreciation for family complemented Roger’s love for learning and storytelling.
He is lovingly remembered by his mother, Ann Peacock; his brother, Doug Peacock; and his sisters, Melisa Peacock and Linda Ladisernia. “Uncle Roger” was adored by his niece, Shelby Peacock, and nephews, TJ Peacock, Chase Coleman, and Tyler Coleman.
He was preceded in death by his father, Virgil Peacock.
Roger’s legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, the lessons he imparted, and the values he embodied. May his memory bring comfort and continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held later this year, where family, friends, and former students will gather to honor his remarkable journey. His deep appreciation for family complemented Roger’s love for learning and storytelling.
