Listen to Obituary

Roberta Faye (Greeson) Hammond passed away on July 25, 2026, after a period of declining health. She was born May 23, 1940, in Burlington, North Carolina to Upton and Erma (Fitch) Greeson. She is survived by Harold, her husband of more than 63 years; her children: Roberta Watson (Todd) of Bogart, Georgia, and Vincent Hammond (Rebecca) of North East, Maryland; three grandchildren: Katie Thomas (Travis) currently stationed in Clovis, New Mexico, Will Watson of Bogart, Georgia, and Andrew Hammond of North East, Maryland; sister: Barbara Nanney (Frank) of South Hill, Virginia; brother: John Greeson (Cheryl) of Graham, North Carolina; two nieces: Leigh Hersey (John) of Monroe, Louisiana and Jackie Snipes (Jordan) of Greensboro, North Carolina; and grandnieces, Keaton and Kellan Snipes and grandnephew, Kip Snipes. She was preceded in death by her parents.

After meeting and marrying Harold during his service posting at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, the couple moved to Oconee County, Georgia, where they have resided since 1964. She was a member of Bethabara Baptist Church in Statham for many years before attending Mars Hill Baptist Church with her daughter’s family, where she joined the Spirit Sunday School class. In the mid-1970s, she began a career as an administrative assistant in the Oconee County School system before transitioning to Oconee State Bank, where she held multiple positions before retiring in 2002. In her spare time, she enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests – most notably flower gardening, amateur photography, and welcoming the hummingbirds every spring. She was an accomplished seamstress who created both daily wear and special occasion garments for the women in the family. Over time, she became an expert cross-stitcher and made several pieces that will be long cherished by her family. She enjoyed traveling and loved visiting family, especially the family reunion beach trips where her famous chocolate “Beach Cake” was a crowd favorite. Her genuine love for others along with her gracious and caring manner has endeared her to her family and countless friends and colleagues throughout her life, and she will be deeply missed.
