Robert “Bob” Paul Harris, Jr., a passionate and loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather, passed away on his 77th birthday, August 28, 2025.

Bob was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, to the late Robert and Peggy Harris on August 28, 1948. He earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial technology from Indiana State University, where he especially loved watching Larry Bird play basketball. His college years were interrupted when he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After completing his service, he returned to finish his degree.

Following graduation, Bob began his career with Anaconda Aluminum, working his way up from mechanic to plant manager. His career took his family from Terre Haute to Henderson, Kentucky, and finally to the Athens, Georgia, area, where he continued his work with Novelis until retirement.

Outside of work, Bob loved restoring and tinkering with old cars (he could fix anything), attending car shows with his friend Arnold, reading history, debating politics with great passion, traveling, enjoying casinos, savoring good food, and watching what his family called his “old man TV programs.” Above all, he treasured time with his beloved family, who always kept life lively, along with his adored cats (and his somewhat less adored dogs, as he liked to joke).

Bob is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 55 years, Susan; daughters Suki Janssen (Chris), Amy Reynolds, and Robin Schofill (Michael); granddaughters Hayden, Sofia, and Daisy; and his sister, Peggy Anthony.

Known affectionately as “Pop” to his daughters, Bob/Pop will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

As he wished, no formal services will be held. He will be surrounded by the love of his family on Saturday prior to cremation.

To honor Bob’s memory, donations may be made to Athenspets at athenspet.net or to Athens-Clarke County (ACC) Animal Services (in the form of food, toys, or supplies, whatever they need).

Lord & Stephens EAST has been entrusted with arrangements.
