Robert “Bobby” Kenneth Duncan was born on August 24, 1940, in Athens, Georgia. He lived a quiet life marked by steady work, family devotion, and dedication to his community. He died on Friday, March 13, 2026 surrounded by his family at the age of 85.
Bobby was a native Athenian, who could easily tell you what building or establishment was located where a new structure now resides. He graduated from Athens High School in 1959. In 1963, he began a long and distinguished career with the United States Department of Agriculture where he received many service awards and commendations. He was proud of the fact that he started in the printing room with the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, later known as the Farm Services Agency, from which he retired in 1998 as the Agency State Administrative Officer. In the absence of the Agency’s State Executive Directory, Bobby directed all state and county operations for FSA. After retiring Bobby continued to serve his community by working as a bailiff for 15 years with State Court Judges Kent Lawrence and Ethelyn Simpson.
He was a quiet, gentle man who didn’t always have a lot to say, but was often sought out for his steady and reasonable opinions on different matters. His compassion for others was evident in the way he lived his life.
Bobby was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed following the Football team for many years, going back to when he watched games from the railroad tracks near the stadium. He was proud to be one of the Kelley Boys at the YMCA and fondly remembered driving the luggage truck to camp in California as a teenager. For more than 60 years, Bobby was active at Tuckston United Methodist Church. He served on many committees and was a faithful usher, giving his time and service to his church community.
He was married to Jackie Jones Duncan for 60 years. Bobby is survived by his wife Jackie; his son Clark and daughter-in-law Aja Duncan; his daughter Dana Duncan, grandsons Jones Duncan and Charlie Duncan, brother Lamar Duncan and brother and sister in law, Edward and Peggy Holmes, along with many nieces and nephews.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Erwin Duncan, Sr. and Florrye Dawson Duncan, brother Frank Erwin Duncan, Jr., sister Barbara Duncan Tillman, nephews, Scott Tillman and Brent Holmes and niece, Karen Holmes.
The Family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all the calls, visits, cards, prayers and concerns for Bobby and his family during his illness.
