Robert Edward “Bobby” Carr, 85, of Athens, Georgia, passed away on August 31, 2025, after a long battle with dementia.

Bobby was born on May 21, 1940, in Covington, Kentucky, and grew up in the heart of the Bluegrass State. Horses were always part of his life, and he spent more than 40 years in the thoroughbred world—galloping at racetracks and later working on farms across Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia.

When he eventually settled in Athens, Bobby found a new rhythm. On game days, you could count on seeing him out at University of Georgia sporting events, working the parking lots and striking up conversations with just about everyone who came through.

Though he never stopped cheering for his beloved Kentucky Wildcats, over time he found himself pulling for the Georgia Bulldogs too, somehow managing the tricky balance of pulling for both schools.

Fitness was another big part of Bobby’s life. He was a regular at the Athens YMCA, where he worked out daily and built friendships that lasted for years. Even into his late 70s, he stayed dedicated enough to compete in bodybuilding competitions.

Bobby is survived by his son, Rob Carr, and daughter in-law Toni Sandys of Baltimore, Maryland; and by his four grandsons: Tyler Carr of Charleston, South Carolina; Alex Carr of White Marsh, Maryland; and Brady Carr and Luke Carr, both of Baltimore.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date and would like to thank the Athens community for the kindness and support shown to Bobby over the years.
