Richard Eugene Carter

Richard Eugene Carter, 72, of Winterville passed away January 6, 2024 after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. A native and lifelong resident of Athens, he was the son of the late Wiley Patton Carter and Mary Johnson Carter.

Richard served as the Vice President of Manufacturing at Wilkins Industries but his greatest role was that of a dedicated husband and father. With a true servant's heart, his life revolved around his family and faith. Meeting his beloved wife of 49 years, Priscilla, in 7th grade is a true testament of his magnetic personality and steady, calm spirit.

In his spare time, Richard enjoyed being with his family and the occasional cycling tour, time permitting. He could be found cheering on the dawgs at every home game, even throughout the Goff era. Music filled the Carter home and Richard made sure to pass on his love for it - especially The Beatles.

In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Dot and Clifton Barrett, a brother-in-law, Dennis Woods.

Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Barrett Carter; children, Christopher Carter (Krystal), Matthew Carter (Lauren), Hannah Anderson (Drew); grandchildren, Wiley Lemmon Carter, Andrew Barrett Anderson, Cain Cofer; brother, Russell Carter (Carolyn); brothers-in-law, Benny Barrett (Mary Ann), George Barrett (Joy), Bryan Barrett (Michele); sister-in-law, Maria Woods; numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Tuckston United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, January 8, 2024 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, Athens.
