Listen to Obituary

Richard Grant Burton, age 62, of Athens, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on February 12, 2026.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Richard, known to many as "Ric," was the son of William Sewel Burton, Sr., and the late Joan Killian Burton.

Richard was a member of the Antioch Christian Church in Watkinsville, Georgia and served as a volunteer in their Jail Ministry. His faith was central to his life and he freely shared his story with others. He was pleased to earn a bachelor's degree in Christian Education from Liberty Bible College & Seminary in 2011. In his youth, Ric spent many happy years creating and starring in imaginative Super 8 movies with family members and neighborhood friends. Another of his passions was martial arts. He pursued and achieved the ranking of 6th degree Black Belt in Shorei-Ryu. Ric was also a lifelong musician and most recently enjoyed playing bass guitar in the band PositivEfx.

Survivors in addition to his father include his beloved partner, Olive Roberts, his sister Lisa Burton Marinos (George), his brother William Sewel Burton, Jr. (Inger Van Hoy), and nephews Steven and William Marinos.

A loving celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date; details to follow.

Lord & Stephens Funeral Home EAST has been entrusted with arrangements.
