Renate Mary Swan, age 72, passed away on April 11, 2026. She was born on May 1, 1953, and lived a life full of strength, love, and unforgettable spirit.

Renate was more than a mother, sister, and partner—she was the heart of her family. She is survived by her daughter, Suzi White, and son-in-law, Jason White; her grandchildren, Kayla, Alexander, and Jaeden White, who brought her so much pride and joy; and her partner, Donnie Sprayberry. She is also survived by her sisters, Margarete Kinner and Jenny Frank, and her brother, Robert Greaux.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Greaux and Anna Lieselotte Greaux; her sister, Joann Schmalzer; and her son, Adam Sears.

Renate also leaves behind her loyal companions, her dog Bone, and her cat Mittens, who she loved and cared for immensely.

If you knew Renate, you knew she was one of a kind. She had that strong German fierceness—stubborn, determined, and never one to back down—but underneath that was a heart that was incredibly sweet, compassionate, and giving. She loved deeply and showed it in the way she took care of others, always willing to help anyone who needed it.

She found joy in the simple, meaningful things—riding motorcycles, spending time in Helen, GA, laughing with friends, and going out to eat with her family. She loved being surrounded by people, laughing, sharing stories, and making memories that will now be cherished forever.

Renate had a presence you could not ignore and a love you will never forget. She touched so many lives in her own unique way, and the space she leaves behind cannot be filled.

A private family viewing will be held at the Lord & Stephens Funeral Home in Athens, GA on April 27, 2026 at 7 pm. A celebration of life will be announced later.

She will be missed more than words can express and loved far beyond a lifetime.

“May you be at peace, free from pain and worry. May you be surrounded by love, just as you gave it so freely. And may we carry your strength and kindness with us, until we meet again.”

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST, Athens, is in charge of arrangements.
