Raleigh Touchstone Elliott

March 28, 1947 — May 3, 2025

Statham

Raleigh Elliott passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 3 in Athens, GA, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. Though he lost this fight, he won the hearts of all the lives he touched during his life on this earth. His story is one of love, dedication, caring for others and giving his all to his family and friends. He was born in Athens, GA, to Raleigh Celess and Grace Touchstone Elliott. He joined his big sister Peggy Gayle who was forever his best friend and loved one! They grew up in Florida and Valdosta, GA.

After high school, he attended the University of Georgia and later transferred to Valdosta State where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Management. At Valdosta State, Raleigh was a Founding Father of the Knights of Arlington fraternity. Due to his leadership and vision in those early days as the fraternity’s first president, they were granted a charter in Kappa Alpha Order. Raleigh was known for his generous spirit and his commitment to his KA brothers. He was also known or his love of the GA Bulldogs and was a University of Georgia fan for life!!

Upon graduation, Raleigh was drafted into the United States Army and served honorably in Viet Nam (decorated Vietnam Service), as well as, stateside in Virginia where he earned the respect of his peers and admiration of those under his command. His commitment to discipline and integrity shaped not only his military career but also the lives of countless others.

Following his service, Raleigh transitioned into the medical sales field where he built a successful career grounded in trust, compassion and a deep desire to help others. His colleagues knew him as a man of strong principles and steady character. Raleigh’s leadership positions with Guidant Corp., IVAC, Critikon, and others allowed him to mentor and promote the careers of so many grateful individuals who thank him to this day! He helped shape a generation of professionals who looked up to him as both a role model and a friend.

Raleigh was a man of deep faith, actively involved with his church community at Athens First United Methodist Church and, previously, Dunwoody United Methodist Church, where he inspired others with his kindness and compassion. You could always count on him when help was needed! Raleigh was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 53 years, Tish, and an awesome dad to his sons, Branan and Connor, and a fabulous grandaddy to Mac and Van. Family was his pride and JOY. Trips to the beach, soccer events, and boating on Lake Martin created so many happy memories! Mac and Van called him RaRa and loved to perch on his lap and drive the boat. We will treasure always our special times with our RaRa.

Raleigh is predeceased by his sons Branan and Connor and leaves behind his loving wife Tish, and grandsons Mac and Van, and daughter-in-law, Erin, plus sister Peggy (&John Gayle.) and brother-in-law Jay (&Lisa Lindsay) And many nieces and nephews!!! He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Raleigh’s Life will be held on Monday, May 12 at Athens First United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Athens FUMC in his name. A reception will be held after the service.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
