Philip Anthony Haynie, known by all as “Tony”, 75 passed away on September 6, 2024 at his home in Winterville, Ga. Tony was born on 6th May, 1949 in Athens, Ga. To Arthur Clarence Haynie (AC) and Catherine Faulkner Haynie. Tony is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathy Peterman Haynie, daughters, Saundra Haynie Gabriel (Frankie) and Rebecca Haynie Caldwell (Jody), and his sister Teresa Haynie. Tony’s grandchildren include Madison Gabriel Phillips (Dylan), Corbin Gabriel; Cohen, Caroline, and Carsyn Caldwell. Tony was preceded in death by his parents.
Tony was a 1968 graduate of Athens High School. After high school Tony pursued a career in welding where he worked for PowerPartners and retired in 2007 with 36 years of service. Tony had a great love for his family. He was known as many things: husband, brother, dad, but his favorite was “Papaw”. Tony’s love for his family, wife, children and especially his grandchildren ran deep. He was a devout member of the Amity Masonic Lodge #731 for 25+ years. He considered the men he met at the Masonic Lodge his brothers and dear friends.
Tony loved watching sports and attending sporting events played by his grandchildren. He was a longtime Georgia Bulldog fan, and spent many Saturdays calling the dawgs!
