Norman Edward McGlohon, Jr., passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, in Athens, Georgia, at the age of 93.
Born on December 14, 1932, in Laurens, South Carolina, Norman lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and a love of learning. He earned a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Education and a master's degree in Plant Pathology from Clemson University before completing a doctorate in Plant Pathology at North Carolina State University.
After serving two years in the U.S. Army in Berlin, Germany, Norman began a distinguished career with the University of Georgia Extension Service, retiring in 1989. He was widely respected for his work with Georgia's agricultural community and served as president of the Clarke County Farm Bureau, treasurer of the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, president of the Georgia County Extension Agents Association, and as a member of the Farmers Round Table.
Norman served Green Acres Baptist in numerous ways, teaching Sunday School for over fifty years. His passion for others to know Jesus fueled a sacrificial generosity of time and resources to mission efforts around the world.
More than any accomplishment, Norman treasured his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Bobbie Milam McGlohon; his sons, Norman (Tracy) McGlohon and Neal (Joy) McGlohon; his brother-in-law, Charles (Diane) Milam; his grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) McGlohon, P.J. (Hans) Christensen, Brad (Kaila) McGlohon, and Chad (Brittany) McGlohon; and his great-grandchildren, Ella McGlohon, Camden Christensen, Sophia McGlohon, and Libby McGlohon.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Edward McGlohon, Sr., and Myrtle Cunningham McGlohon, two brothers, and a sister.
Norman enjoyed farming and fishing, finding peace in the outdoors and the land he loved.
A visitation will be held at Green Acres Baptist Church, 2085 S. Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Cypress Project, 3053 Ambrosia Drive, Duncan, SC 29334, or to Green Acres Baptist Church, 2085 S. Barnett Shoals Road, Athens, GA 30605.
