Nathan Wesley Hale, 84, died Monday, March 3, 2014. Born to the late Samuel and Ollie Shelton Hale in Oconee County February 19, 1930, he graduated from Athens High School in 1948. He was an accountant by profession, starting off working with J. Swanton Ivy Dodge and Chrysler dealership in the early 50's. Nathan also worked with Ranick Ltd. and Martin Mechanical before he opened his own practice: Accounting/Payroll Services, in 1973 where he worked until retirement in 2008.
Nathan was a man who embraced life and lived it to its fullest. He was a gentleman, a great father, and family man. Known as a great raconteur he lived up to his jolly personality and contagious laughter with his joke telling. Nathan was also a sensitive and caring man, who loved nature and to travel, he also became a pilot and loved flying. He played the guitar, mandolin, and harmonica. Nathan accomplished all of this after contracting polio at the age of six. Unwilling to be defeated by the disease, he persevered and made the most of his life and blessed those that knew him with his kind and generous heart. May God bless him and receive him warmly in his arms.
Nathan is survived by his wife, Nelly Hale; daughter, Lynn Hale (Donald) Hockaday; grandchildren, D. Wesley and Patrick R.
